Design Competition: Vote for Basel's Wickelfisch Drybag of Summer 2025!

Thank you to all the creative minds who participated in our competition to design next year's Wickelfisch! For those of you that still don't know, the Wickelfisch is Basel's iconic drybag, which went viral thanks to Diplo, who took one for a swim down the river.

For the design competition we challenged artists, designers and illustrators to capture the theme of "deep sea," and the results were nothing short of spectacular! After much deliberation, the jury consisting of the Basel Art Summer Camp and Wickelfisch teams selected the top three designs that best embody this year's theme.... Now, it's your turn to vote which design will make waves in the summer of 2025!

Without further ado, here are the three finalists:

Mary Nogueira Marques - Sea Creatures

Mary’s design dives deep into the ocean’s vibrant and mysterious ecosystem. Featuring a variety of sea life—from fish to crustaceans, plants to corals—this design captures the gradual fade of colors as light diminishes in the deep sea. When the bag is closed, it presents a rich deep blue, but as it opens, warm pinks and hidden creatures emerge, creating an interactive and enchanting experience. The backdrop, an underwater photograph, showcasing the play of light on ocean waves.

Laetitia - Oil on Water

Laetitia’s dry bag design offers commentary on environmental issues. This Wickelfisch shines brightly, capturing the natural colors of water, while subtly reflecting the iridescent colors of oil pollution. The striking contrast between the beauty of water and the harsh reality of pollution serves as a reminder of the delicate balance we must maintain in our natural world.

Koshika Yadava's Rheinpferd

Koshika’s design reimagines the seahorse as a deep-sea animal of Basel. Known for its unique and gender-nonconforming characteristics, the seahorse symbolizes the quirky and imaginative spirit of Basel Stadt. With an exoskeleton instead of scales, the seahorse traditional notions of what a fish—and by extension, a city—can be. With its intricate details, the "Rheinpferd" design invites us to explore the unexpected...
